Thermoset materials: properties and applications

Thermoset materials are characterized by their high thermomechanical strength and low density compared to metal. They are particularly heat-resistant, resistant to chemicals and difficult or impossible to burn, which makes them ideal for demanding applications.

In contrast to thermoplastics, thermosets remain dimensionally stable and unchangeable after curing, as their molecular structure is permanently cross-linked by a close-meshed network. This gives them high rigidity, excellent electrical insulation properties and a long service life - ideal for use in the automotive, electrical and aerospace industries.

Injection molding process for processing thermosets

Thermosets are processed into high-quality housings for commercial vehicle construction using the injection molding process. This process enables the production of complex and precise components that meet the high demands of the industry. In addition to housings, thermosets are also used in the production of insulation for motor brushes, better known as brush holders. These insulating elements are crucial for the performance and durability of electric motors.

Thermosets are also used in the production of gears for hand tools. Their outstanding mechanical properties, such as high strength and durability, make them the ideal choice for the demanding conditions in industry. Thanks to the versatility and robustness of thermosets, innovative solutions can be developed that meet the specific requirements of the respective applications.

Pressing process for electrical insulation in electric motors

At ISK, the pressing process is crucial for the production of armature shafts for electric motors. A thermoset material is used to ensure effective electrical insulation between motor shafts and armature plates. This insulation prevents short circuits and interference that could impair motor performance.

By processing under high temperatures and pressure, the thermoset is evenly distributed and firmly bonded to the anchor plates, which ensures stability and durability. The pressing process also enables customized solutions that meet specific requirements in terms of size and insulating properties. It therefore makes a significant contribution to the efficiency and reliability of modern electric motors.
